Travels: Israel

Boston take-off. 8 hours, AlItalia, cramped bucket seats. Dinner then breakfast, the blink of an eye. World's worst in-flight movie. Rome layover: Latte, brioche in the middle of the night. Outside, a sunny Italian day. Brusque woman runs me down at the terminal gate, doesn't glance back. Three hours to Tel Aviv. Harried shuttle across the scrub land to Jerusalem, starry-eyed Jewish boys gushing life's every wonder across every kilometer. 9 Gihon, Suzi's apartment, desert winds across open air, tapestries waving in the windows. Today became tomorrow somewhere over the Mediterranean.
